Covid-19 is a potentially deadly virus that has spread around the world, and research is ongoing to develop drugs and vaccines to treat it. However, several traditional medicines and natural therapies have also been looked to for potential treatments for Covid-19. Many traditional medicines- including those based on Chinese and Ayurvedic medicines- have long been used to treat respiratory illnesses, so it is no surprise that these treatments have been explored in the context of the novel coronavirus. Some have used herbal infusions to treat the symptoms of the illness, while others have looked at physical exercise or dietary advice in order to fight infection. In Chinese medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used to treat Covid-19, normally in combination with the therapies used in Western medicine. For example, TCM practitioners may use acupuncture for respiratory symptoms, as well as prescribe herbal formulas to boost immunity. Other Chinese medicines, such as qigong or tai chi, can be used to strengthen the immune system, and may be beneficial during the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, Ayurvedic medicine has been used to treat a wide range of ailments and diseases. Its practitioners commonly use a range of herbal remedies to bolster the immune system and fight off infections, such as turmeric, ginger, holy basil, and gojai berry. According to some studies, these natural treatments may help reduce the symptoms of Covid-19. As the pandemic has spread, more research is being conducted into the effectiveness of natural therapies as a treatment for Covid-19. While there is no evidence that these therapies will be a stand-alone treatment for the virus, their use in conjunction with other treatments may provide some relief for symptoms.
