TCM Techniques is the use of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to support physical and mental well-being. It is a holistic approach that seeks to identify and remove imbalances and weaknesses in the body through diet, lifestyle, herbs, acupuncture and other therapies. TCM techniques are used to treat a wide variety of health conditions, both physical and mental, from minor aches and pains to more serious conditions such as cancer. The basis of TCM revolves around the concept of Qi, or life force energy. According to TCM, energy can become blocked or imbalanced, leading to illnesses and diseases. By using TCM techniques, the underlying cause of imbalances can be identified and corrected. Acupuncture is one of the most well-known TCM techniques. Acupuncture seeks to stimulate and balance energy pathways, or meridians, to bring the body back into balance and restore health. This is usually done through the insertion of very thin needles into specific points on the body. Other TCM techniques include: herbalism, moxibustion, cupping, exercise, diet, lifestyle changes, and qigong. Herbalism uses herbs, minerals, and other plant matter to support health. These herbs are used to treat illnesses and diseases, as well as to support overall health. Similarly, moxibustion and cupping use materials derived from the natural environment to support health. For example, moxibustion is the burning of dried herbs close to the surface of the skin, while cupping uses glass ‘cups’ placed directly onto the skin and then heated to create a vacuum. Exercises such as qigong are focused on nourishing health through movements that are gentle and restorative. Diet and lifestyle changes are also important components of traditional Chinese medicine. TCM practitioners often recommend changes that can include reducing sugar intake, drinking more water, getting more restful sleep, and reducing stress levels. It is important to remember that TCM is not simply a quick fix, but rather a lifelong process of learning that takes dedication to maintain balance.
